An e-Health Mobile App will also be rolled out under this initiative, enabling patients to check their medical records, treatment history, and expenses through their smartphones.
In a landmark development for Gujarat’s public healthcare infrastructure, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC has become the first civic body in the state to adopt a centralized Hospital Management and Information System (HMIS).
The digital platform was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Gandhinagar.
The HMIS will digitally link all civic-run hospitals and 80 urban health centers in Surat, integrating them into a centralized system designed to enhance patient care, streamline hospital operations, and build a real-time health database for the city.
“The HMIS will provide the health institutions of the SMC with a centralized system integrated with a database so that patient treatment becomes seamless and data duplication is prevented,” said an official source from the civic body.
Under this system, patient treatment records will now be maintained in digital format, making it easier for healthcare providers to access a patient’s medical history instantly.
The new system aims to reduce paperwork, improve transparency, and enable faster, better-informed decision-making by doctors.
SMC sources further informed that the HMIS will support digital OPD and IPD registrations, maintain electronic health records, and issue e-health cards and Unique Health IDs (UHID) to every patient, helping track all health-related services availed by them across different civic-run facilities.
A notable feature of the HMIS is the Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS), which will digitally store and archive radiological images such as X-rays, sonography scans, and other diagnostic visuals.
This will allow doctors to retrieve and review past diagnostic images conveniently and improve clinical outcomes.
Additionally, the HMIS introduces a Queue Management System (QMS) at SMIMER Hospital, which will issue digital tokens to streamline patient flow and reduce wait times at hospital counters.
An e-Health Mobile App will also be rolled out under this initiative, enabling patients to check their medical records, treatment history, and expenses through their smartphones.
Sources from the SMC said that with integrated patient data available at the click of a button, doctors will be empowered to make quicker and more accurate treatment decisions, improving the overall efficiency and quality of healthcare services in the city.
This initiative marks a significant step towards paperless, efficient, and patient-centric public healthcare in Gujarat and is expected to serve as a model for other civic bodies across the state.
What is Digital Minimalism?
Digital minimalism is a lifestyle approach that emphasizes intentional and mindful use of technology. It encourages reducing unnecessary digital distractions and focusing only on activities that add value to our lives. Unlike extreme measures like completely disconnecting, digital minimalism is about finding balance and using technology in a way that serves your goals.
Key elements of digital minimalism include:
- Decluttering digital environments
- Prioritizing meaningful connections
- Limiting non-essential digital tasks
Benefits of Digital Minimalism
Adopting a digital minimalism approach to your daily life offers numerous benefits that can improve both your personal and professional well-being. In a world where we are constantly bombarded with notifications, emails, and social media updates, this lifestyle shift can help create a sense of control and clarity. Below are some of the key advantages of embracing a minimalistic approach to technology use:
1. Increased Focus and Productivity
One of the most immediate benefits of digital minimalism is the boost it can give to your focus and productivity. By deliberately reducing distractions, such as unnecessary app notifications or constant email alerts, you create a more conducive environment for deep work.
2. Better Mental Health
Digital minimalism can have a profound impact on your mental well-being. The constant barrage of information from social media platforms, news outlets, and other digital channels can lead to what experts call “information overload.” This phenomenon often results in feelings of anxiety, and even burnout, as our brains struggle to process the sheer volume of data we consume on a daily basis.
3. Improved Relationships
By reducing your dependence on digital platforms and choosing to be more present in the moment, you can strengthen your relationships with the people around you. Whether it’s spending quality time with family, engaging in meaningful conversations with friends, or simply listening more attentively to a colleague, digital minimalism encourages you to invest in the relationships that truly matter.
Tips for Practicing Digital Minimalism
Here are some practical tips for incorporating digital minimalism into your life:
- Limit Social Media Usage: Use apps that track your time spent on social platforms, and set specific limits for each day.
- Declutter Your Digital Space: Delete apps and files that you no longer need, and organize your digital workspace to remove distractions.
- Prioritize Offline Time: Set aside time every day to disconnect from technology and engage in offline activities like reading, exercising, or spending time with loved ones.
The key to living well in a high-tech world is to spend much less time using technology
