Founded by Neha K Motwani, Luma operates an AI-powered clinic in Mumbai and plans to expand to major Indian cities. The startup offers IVF, fertility preservation, and personalized care through its tool LumaAI, aiming to modernize Indiaโs fragmented fertility sector.
Mumbai-based fertility-tech startup Luma Fertility has raised $4 million in seed funding led by Peak XVโs Surge, a platform known for backing early-stage startups. The round also saw participation from Ameera Shah, Executive Chairperson of Metropolis Healthcare, and Vijay Taparia, Chairman of B2V Ventures.
Founded by Neha K Motwani, the creator of fitness platform Fitternity (acquired by Cure.fit in 2021), Luma Fertility aims to transform fertility care in India with a modern, patient-first approach. The fresh capital will support the expansion of its fertility clinic network starting with two new centers in Mumbai, followed by entry into Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, and Delhi over the next two years.
Launched just a year ago, Luma currently operates a 6,000 sq ft flagship clinic in Bandra West, offering services such as IVF, egg and embryo freezing, fertility assessments, and preconception consultations. A key differentiator is its proprietary AI-powered tool, LumaAI, designed to guide patients through their fertility journey with personalized insights and support.
โWeโre building a platform that is transparent, empathetic, and driven by medical excellence,โ said Motwani. โWeโve reimagined the patient experience from consultations to lab design to make fertility care more accessible and less overwhelming.โ
Leading the embryology team is Chirag Shah, one of Indiaโs top embryologists, who has performed over 10,000 IVF cycles. Unlike traditional clinics where embryology remains behind the scenes, Luma has built a transparent lab to put this critical process in full view for patients.
With a team of 20 members, including two full-time fertility specialists, the clinic has already completed over 500 consultations since launch. The founders believe the timing is right, with fertility care in India reaching a tipping point.
According to the IMARC Group, Indiaโs fertility services market valued at $1.5 billion in 2024 is expected to grow at a CAGR of 12.7%, reaching $4.41 billion by 2033. Despite this rapid growth, the sector remains highly fragmented and often outdated in its approach.
โNeha has proven her ability to build with scale and purpose,โ said investor Vijay Taparia. โLuma is filling a major gap in single-specialty healthcare by placing the patient experience at the center.โ
With growing competition from players like Apollo Fertility, Birla Fertility and IVF, and Nova Fertility Centre, Luma Fertilityโs tech-driven, consumer-first model aims to set a new standard in reproductive healthcare across India.
