Zoho Acquires Asimov Robotics, Boosts Deep Tech Push in Kerala

Zoho has acquired Kochi-based Asimov Robotics, known for its healthcare and automation solutions, to strengthen its deep tech efforts. The startup will operate from Zohoβs new R\&D campus in Kottarakkara, Kerala, which will focus on AI and robotics. Zoho also announced partnerships with Kerala Startup Mission and other R\&D collaborations, aiming to drive innovation and IP creation from rural India.
In a significant move to bolster its deep tech and robotics capabilities, Zoho Corporation has acquired Kochi-based startup Asimov Robotics, known for its innovations in healthcare and industrial automation. Founded in 2012 by Jayakrishnan T, Asimov Robotics gained national attention during the COVID-19 pandemic for deploying service robots in hospitals and has maintained strong ties with research institutions.
The acquisition aligns with Zoho’s long-term vision of nurturing indigenous innovation from grassroots locations. Asimov will now operate under Zohoβs mentorship from the companyβs Kottarakkara office in Kerala.
As part of this strategic push, Zoho also inaugurated a state-of-the-art research and development campus in Kottarakkara, which will serve as a hub for artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics research. The facility, with a seating capacity of 250, is designed to foster high-impact R&D while creating opportunities in rural regions.
The campus launch was marked by the presence of key dignitaries, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Finance Minister K N Balagopal, and Zoho leadership such as Co-founder and CEO Shailesh Davey, US CEO Tony Thomas, and Co-founder and Chief Scientist Sridhar Vembu.
βOur Kottarakkara office will be dedicated to enhancing our R&D projects in various fields, starting with AI and Robotics,β said Davey. βWe also aim to collaborate with like-minded deep tech organizations to amplify our impact.β
Zoho further announced new partnerships with Kerala Startup Mission under its deep tech Product Studio initiative and multiple R&D collaborations with startups and institutions.
Finance Minister Balagopal highlighted the broader vision behind this initiative: βThis collaboration with Zoho is a major step toward enabling intellectual property creation and cutting-edge product development from rural areas. The Kottarakkara campus stands as a pilot model for this transformative approach.β
