Amit Shah Opens State-of-the-Art Medical College in Bengaluru
A Vision of Service: Inauguration of Super-Specialty Hospital and Education Campus at Adichunchanagiri University
Bengaluru, Karnataka – A new chapter in India’s healthcare and education landscape unfolded as Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated a state-of-the-art super-specialty hospital and education campus at the new Bengaluru campus of Adichunchanagiri University. Developed by Sri Adichunchanagiri Mahasamsthana Math, the ambitious project spans 17 acres and was built at a cost of INR 200 crore.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the BGS MCH Campus in Nagarur, began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Amit Shah in the presence of Swami Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, the revered pontiff of the Math. The event was attended by several dignitaries including Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy, Karnataka’s Minister for Medical Education Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, and others.
A Milestone in Inclusive Development
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah lauded the Math’s long-standing commitment to inclusive development through healthcare and education. “Our philosophy is to reach out to others through service. It is the central focus of our culture,” he said. “This institution, developed at a cost of ₹200 crore, is not only an educational center for 4,000 students but also a 1,000-bed super-specialty hospital offering free and concessional treatment to the poor.”
Shah underscored the values of affordability and accessibility that define the institution, noting that such efforts will help it become one of the largest and most impactful in the country.
Healthcare as a Right, Not a Privilege
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s long-standing vision for equitable healthcare, Shah recalled, “Twenty-six years ago, he said that poverty stems from illness and illness stems from unaffordable treatment. Today, under his leadership, that vision has been realized.”
He praised the achievements of Ayushman Bharat, stating that 60 crore Indians now receive free treatment up to ₹5 lakh, and mentioned other major national initiatives such as Fit India Movement, International Yoga Day, Poshan Abhiyan, and the establishment of 15,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras offering affordable medicines.
Transforming Medical Education in India
Shah also emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding medical education:
- AIIMS institutes have increased from 7 to 23
- Medical colleges from 387 to 780
- MBBS seats from 51,000 to 1.8 lakh
- PG medical seats from 31,000 to 74,000
These numbers are not just statistics; they represent opportunities for future doctors to serve across India and the world,” he remarked.
Karnataka Leading the Way
Minister Sharan Prakash Patil highlighted Karnataka’s leadership in the medical education sector, noting it has the highest number of medical education seats in the country. He acknowledged the visionary efforts of earlier generations in laying this strong foundation.
Recognizing a global demand for Indian doctors, Patil reiterated the need to expand medical education further. “I’ve conveyed to Amit Shah ji the importance of establishing more medical colleges. Our goal is to have a medical college, a super-specialty hospital, and a cancer care center in every district headquarters.”
A Model for Holistic Growth
Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy expressed appreciation for Shah’s continued support and reaffirmed the Centre’s dedication to Karnataka’s development. The event was marked not just by ceremony but by a strong collective vision for transforming health and education infrastructure.
With its inclusive approach, modern facilities, and spiritual ethos, the new campus of Adichunchanagiri University is poised to become a model institution for healthcare and education rooted in tradition, yet equipped for the future
