AIIMS Jhajjar Launches ‘Sahayam’ Digital Health Portal to Support Elderly in Rural India
In a pioneering effort to enhance senior citizens’ health and wellbeing in rural India, AIIMS Jhajjar has introduced ‘Sahayam’, a dedicated digital health portal tailored for the elderly. The platform centralizes access to a variety of state and central welfare schemes, offers free digital health assessments, and provides educational resources on mental wellness, safety, and physical activity.
Developed by the Society for Rural Mental Health (SRMH) in partnership with AIIMS Jhajjar’s Health Department and the National Cancer Institute’s Preventive Oncology unit, the portal aims to tackle the unique challenges faced by aging populations in rural settings.
Unveiled during a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on “Comorbidity and Mental Health in Rural India,” the launch brought together over 200 mental health professionals and caregivers, emphasizing the growing need for accessible elderly care.
Dr. Rajiv Gupta, patron of SRMH, praised the initiative as a vital step to bridge the digital divide for seniors. He highlighted the portal’s easy-to-use interface, large fonts, and the innovative Geriatric Health Questionnaire (GeHQ); a free digital tool for early detection of memory loss and depression.
Looking ahead, a mobile app version of Sahayam is in development, promising features like emotional support services and digital wellness tracking to further empower elderly users in rural communities.
The portal is now live at www.Sahaym.in, opening new avenues for accessible, preventive care among India’s aging rural population.
